Board of Supervisors Chairman Presents
"State of the County," Announces "Cool Counties" Initiative
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly reflected on the accomplishments of the past year and outlined his top priorities for 2007 during the "State of the County" address on Thursday, March 15. During the address Connolly announced a "Cool Counties" initiative in which Fairfax is partnering with a select group of counties across the United States and the Sierra Club to create a template for local governments to begin reducing their greenhouse gas emissions in favor of more environmentally friendly practices. "Fairfax County has been recognized as a leader for its environmental stewardship, and with this new initiative we hope to share our lessons and experiences with our colleagues across the nation as we work toward the shared goal of preserving our natural environment for our children and generations to come," Connolly said. Supervisors meetings are aired live on Fairfax County Government Channel 16. A replay of the morning session is aired the next day, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. A replay of the entire meeting is cablecast each Saturday following the board meeting beginning at 10 a.m. Channel 16 also cablecasts the agenda for each board meeting at 8 p.m. on the Friday and Sunday preceding each Monday meeting. The agenda is aired as part of the Channel 16 Bulletin Board on the Monday morning of the board meeting beginning at 8 a.m. A review copy of the final board agenda also is available at county regional libraries on the Friday prior to each Monday meeting.
