Subject   South Reston Park & Ride Development

I expect my elected officials to represent the concerns of the constituency by whom they were elected.  That's why I am contacting you, my Fairfax County Board of Supervisor  and why I am also sending a message to Gerry Connolly, as the Board of Supervisor's chairman.

I am sharing my deep concerns with you regarding the proposed development of the South Reston Park and Ride Lot (at the corner of Lawyer's Road and Reston Parkway).

My specific concerns are:

  • The development that is proposed will generate a meaningful and significant increase in traffic  in an area that is gridlocked in most morning & evening rush hours.
  • The development, as proposed is out of character, to the surrounding properties  in the area along Lawyers and Fox Mill roads, in Fox Mill estates and in the Hunters Woods area of Reston.
  • The process as, so far, not been forthcoming with details.  In fact, some months after no other bids were received and the bidding closed, certain key factors remain confidential? to the public.

This is the wrong location and the wrong density for the surrounding community. Please let me know your views on this subject.

Subject:  Horror at the Proposed Development  South Reston Park & Ride Lot

I am deeply disappointed to see that Fairfax county is once again, bowing to the wishes of developers.  This park and ride lot supports the community in many ways.  It is a lot where you can actually get parking and metro transportation in non-rush hour times.  It has convenient and well-used recycle bins; it provides an area for school buses to be safely parked.

The information about the development lacks critical pieces of information.  By having that information absent  citizens who have experienced development by politics? can only assume the same thing will happen again.

My neighbors and I will hold our Board of Supervisors accountable  should this proposal move forward.  The impacts to traffic, the environment and the long established? neighborhoods that surround the lot  Fox Mill, Hunters Woods, Oakton  are unthinkable.  What could the county possibly be thinking?

Subject:  Impacting Our Children

Once again, the greed of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, takes priority over the needs of its citizens  impacting our children (and future voters). The proposed development of the park and ride lot at Lawyers Road and Reston parkway will have long reaching impact on young ones in that area.

Yes, the school currently to be most impacted is Hunters Woods (the magnet school of which we are so proud).  Hunters Woods is already overcrowded  despite its recent renovation.  So are children from the new area put into Hunters Woods Elementary  and existing children moved off to Dogwood, Sunrise Valley or Crossfields?

What about the fact that organized sports don't have enough fields to play on already?

Where will the children who will live in this area play?  This is an extremely heavily traveled area.  Children attempting to cross Reston Parkway to get to the soccer field at Fox Mill & Reston Parkway, or to go to the shopping area in Fox Mill will literally risk their lives crossing Reston Parkway.  Each rush hour there are many near-misses? and at least once a week residents can hear the screeching of tires, followed by a crash  usually followed by sirens coming out of Fire Station 431.

Why not be good planners  leave the Park and Ride lot as a link to Metro  promised in the not-so-distant future?  Or has greed once again reigned supreme?
